ACADEMIC ADVISING SERVICES


The Academic Advisors, located in the Student Affairs office, provide students with information to assist them in making academic decisions and in developing an academic plan for successful completion of program requirements and utilization of the full range of college resources. In addition, advising services are provided by faculty, academic directors, and the Dean of Academic Affairs.

Advising Team

The Academic Advisors at The Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago are available to assist you, the student, throughout your academic career at this institution. They are located in the Student Affairs office and also maintain an office at the Loop campus.

Academic Advisors:

-Help students understand the academic policies and procedures
-Assist in the development of academic goals
-Provide guidance through the course registration process
-Direct students to tutoring services in the Learning Center
-Refer students to counseling services and other resources
-Interface with academic directors, faculty, and various departments

What is Your Commitment?

  • Visit academic advisor at least once a quarter
  • Seek help early and be an active partner
  • Establish new academic goals and track your progress
  • Discuss course selection and registration for the upcoming quarter
  • Become knowledgeable of and adhere to institutional policies, procedures and requirements

Students are encouraged to take full advantage of the services that the academic advising team can provide.  It is important to remember that academic advisors must be viewed as a support system for you. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please call 312-777-8615 or stop by the Student Affairs office to see an academic advisor; walk-in appointments are always welcome.

Tips For Your First Week

On-line Services (OLS):

See the Registrar's Office or Student Affairs for your username and password to access your on-line services (OLS) account. On-line services will include:

  • A web-based email; which means that like Yahoo or Hotmail, it can be accessed anywhere you have internet access using stu.aii.edu
  • An access to your grades, attendance, schedule, transcript, holds, students & instructors email addresses etc.
  • 50 MB of web space to create your own web site
  • Access to information relevant to the College

This is your PRIMARY communication between administration, faculty and students. CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT OFTEN.

Supply Kit Pick-Up:

If you haven't picked-up your supply kit during orientation, follow these 2 steps to pick-up your kit:
1) Go to the Accounting Department to get a voucher
2) Go to the Campus Store and present your voucher

College ID Card:

New and Re-entry students may obtain their Student ID during the first week of the quarter.  Please visit the Student Affairs office for more information.

Remember to carry your student ID card at all times with you. You may be asked to present it to access the campus or to use a computer lab.

UPass:

  • All full-time students of The Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago participate in the CTA UPass Program.
  • CTA will be taking photos for all full-time students (12 credit hours = 3 courses). Check with Student Affairs for dates, times and location. After these dates, please come to Student Affairs to have your photo taken.
  • If your U-Pass is lost or stolen after the 1st week, please contact the CTA or click on the link at the top of the screen under the "Transportation" section for a link to the CTA website.
